Garden Journal Dividends: What Seeds You Will Need

Territorial Seed Catalog

OK, so we’ve got one more puzzle piece to putting our 2025 seed order together. Remember that garden journal we talked about last season? Yeah, here’s where you’re going to need it.

Hopefully, you heeded our advice and noted all those seeds you might be out of or had poor germination with from last season. As you might imagine, if you don’t have something in your seed collection, you might not realize you don’t have it until it’s time to sow it!

Having this list of needed seeds makes our seed ordering process go very quickly. It also increases our accuracy, too, as we rarely need to do last minute seed purchases or get inadvertent duplicates of seeds.

In case you didn’t take good notes last year, 2025 is an excellent year to start that garden journal! One of the critical pieces of information to put in there are those seeds you need to re-order in 2026! As you go through your germination process, note anything that is problematic, too! Trust us, you’re not going to remember these details a year from now!

So, now that we’ve combined the seeds that we need to replace due to age, plus the things we know we ran out of or had problems with, we can clearly see that we need to spend approximately a bazillion dollars on seeds. And that’s before we’ve even pondered anything “new” and “fun” for 2025!

We definitely aren’t saying that you can’t or shouldn’t do anything new or fun! We’ve got several new things queued up for this year and we’re excited to show you them! We’re also trying out a new-to-us seed supplier, too! But, fully understanding the costs of simply maintaining your seed collection is vital before you consider any spending sprees!

Since we started applying a more structured approach to our seed purchasing, we’ve really been able to reign in spending on genetics. It’s so easy to get carried away with seed orders, so having a plan really helps! These early planning efforts will also smooth out your growing season tremendously!

We’ll be talking more about garden journals in the future. But, this is an excellent time to get started on yours and begin thinking about what should go into it!
