And we have our first life of the season! We are well on our way to being the proud parents of a thousand+ new plants this season!
Growing from seed both is and is not a “simple” endeavor. While it is, at the face of it, as simple as adding soil and water, we’ve come to the understanding that there’s a lot more nuance to it that the armchair gardener gives it credit for.
One of the reasons people are successful with growing from seed is their dedication to understanding and providing the environment that their plants need across various stages of life. A baby seedling has very different needs from a fully mature transplant, who’s needs are just as diametrically opposed to an actual garden plant that will produce a desired fruit.
This is one of the big reasons we’ve learned to teach that growing from seed is an entirely different skillset than actually having a garden. While these topics are often intertwined, there is almost no symmetry between a given seedling and the fully grown version of that plant. It took us becoming fully mature in our understanding of growing to truly understand this distinction.
The armchair gardener that assumes growing is “just add water and dirt” are misunderstanding a huge component of what growing is all about. If you want to be a truly successful grower, you have to commit yourself to understanding the needs of plants across all cycles of life. This goes so far beyond “just adding water and dirt” that we chuckle when growing your own is boiled down to this.
We certainly don’t intend to be “hoity toity” about these efforts. We spend an immense amount of time and effort teaching the important aspects of growing from seed and beyond. And we hope that you see and understand our passion for creating ideal environments that “look right,” creating resonance, so that others may see the wisdom of our ways.
We are grateful that so many of you are with us for yet another season. But, if you’re new here, we definitely offer you a warm welcome! We are trying to cultivate not just plants here, but also your minds. And we are happy to see that we’ve established fertile ground.
