It’s Not All About The Tight Schedules!

We had a different topic planned for today, but our plans have changed. Kayde’s been feeling under the weather today, so we’re taking our typical sowing day off to rest. (And I’m making a new video!) But, this presents another important topic we should address with growing from seed!

It might seem, with specific schedules for sowing seeds, that there’s some degree of precision that has to be applied. That’s definitely not true! You have days, often even weeks, of leeway in timing that you can use for your sowing schedules!

Sometimes, life gets in the way. It’s far more important for the gardener to be malleable and tend to all aspects of life. Whether that means tending to your personal care or something that is far more pressing in your life. Remember, this stuff is supposed to be fun and should enrich our lives, not be a mechanistic task!

The overarching goal of the seed sowing schedule is two fold. It ensures your plants are big enough to transplant and survive outdoors. Second, it helps the gardener avoid the “jungle of craziness” that comes when plants are far too large. On the grand scale of things, days are not going to matter.

We do try to mention this a fair bit, but gardening is a generally flexible thing. There are things that are important to do and not do, but overall, plants do not operate with any precision.

So, if something gets in your way this season, give yourself some grace. We’ve dealt with countless interruptions and unplanned things in our gardening. It’s going to be OK!
