So, let’s talk about higher end growing gear and when it’s the right time to start investing into the right things.
It’s totally natural to have the instinct to try and save money when buying anything, especially if you’re the frugal type like us. For example, when we were outfitting our indoor grow rooms, we opted for the “cheap” solution more often than not. Circulation fans are our example today. It was much easier for us to swallow buying a few $10 fans than a few $35 fans.
Though it’s not always true, product quality and cost often go hand in hand. The beginner grower might not be certain about their growing future, so it’s natural to err on the side of cheap over quality. But, as you become more certain of your future, and your commitment to the craft, that equation should likely change.
It was no surprise that our cheap fans eventually just died after a couple years. We’ve even replaced them with more cheap fans. This is wholly unsustainable because eventually, we’ll be spending much more than we would had we just bought the “right” premium product that will last for many years to come.
We’ve been through this cycle with countless things. Our grow lighting, our 1020 trays, our seeding trays, our humidity domes, our pots and now our circulation fans. These days, we are much more acutely aware of this cycle. So, when we have to replace something, we definitely look heavily at that long term value equation. We call it the “buy once, cry once” philosophy and it’s good to practice when you have to replace something.
We’re glad to finally be introducing AC Infinity fans into the mix for our indoor grow room air circulation. These are so called “high end” fans, widely regarded as one of the more premium air movement solutions out there. The build quality is exemplary, designed for long term service, and it’s obvious to me why they’ve become a market leader.
