The Worst Thing About Gardening…The Weeds!

Well, it’s going to be a short one tonight. We are wiped! We’re knocking down the to-do lists, though, and it feels good to be catching back up. Most importantly, we finally got to “cleaning up” our community garden. And boy was it a mess!

One of the strategies we often use to garden away from our home is to continually pick off smaller projects with each visit. We rarely leave hours of work for ourselves as it can be quite burdensome. But, when your summer project list gets you behind, the only solution is to spend half a day working at it.

Well, she cleans up nicely! We figured a “peak summer” pic might be appreciated now that the garden is actually presentable. Things are really coming along and most of what we have left growing here are long range crops that we’ll be harvesting towards the end of the season.

It’s quite remarkable just how annoying and pervasive weeds are when they’ve been fertilized by good doses of NPK! We do wish there was a good way to avoid it, but weeds appreciate fertile ground just as much as our garden plants do.

With us approaching the tail end of July here, our minds are starting to turn towards those end-of-season preparatory tasks. This next week, we’ll be going through several of the things we do once we hit a month to our first frosts to help our plants finish in style.

Anyway, that’s about all I’ve got for now. It’s time for some ibuprofen, washed back with a whiskey and maybe a little horizontal goodness.
