Well, it’s kind of a sad day here at the Frosty Gardens. We’ve begun the process of tearing down our container gardens for the season.
It’s always hard cutting off our plants and sending them to the compost pile. We’ve cared for many of them for as long as six months now and they’ve brought us tons of joy over the summer. It’s stark how much more “barren” things look when our container gardens don’t brighten our outdoor space.
We’ve been looking at the weather and it looks like we’re going to start getting temperatures in the 30’s next week. That means frosts and freezing temperatures are right around the corner. So, it was time and this process usually takes us several days to fully complete.
We do always try to remember that we’ll again have next year’s container gardens. We’ll be firing up our indoor grow rooms in a short six months from now, ready to do it all again. And it will be even better, benefitting from all the things we learned this season.
Still, we’re hardly done yet! We’ve still got quite a few crops in the ground and our focus will be on knocking them off, one by one. With this task in progress, it’s starting to look a lot more practical that we’ll be able to wrap up our gardens prior to winter setting in.
At this point, I think we’re very close to being ready for the frosts to start settling in. We still have a small handful of frost sensitive things that needs harvesting, but we should be there by the end of this coming week. That’s a good feeling, we’d always much rather be prepared than be behind!
Hope you all are getting things done out there, enjoying those harvests and preservations!
