The Eve Of Our From Seed Garden: Sowing Schedules

Well, we are on the eve of our seed starting kickoff! The beginning of where we start the process of raising over a thousand garden starts from seed, indoors! Our gear is prepped and with 12 weeks to our last frost, it’s now time for us to GO, GO, GO!

For those unacquainted, one of the ways we make sure this is a “sane” process is by using a sowing schedule. This schedule basically determines what we sow and when we sow it.

The general goal is to get all of our plants to an appropriate level of maturity to transplant into our garden. Some plants germinate or grow slowly, some grow very fast. The schedule balances these differences out.

It’s helpful to understand that sowing schedules are not “precision focused” as much as they are a “general guideline.” If we sow on a Saturday and you sow the next Thursday, there will be zero discernable difference between our plants come last frost.

We will be doing weekly sowings, almost every weekend for the next two months or so. Some weeks are light, some are heavy. But, we’ll be taking you through all of it with our daily posts!

And in case you didn’t know, we publish our exact sowing schedule, linked down in the comments. While we primarily focus on zones 2 through 4, we also provide guidance for all northern zones, 0 through 8!

This also marks the point where we’ll try our best to do regular, daily posts through the rest of the season! It starts out a bit slow, but soon we’ll have the opposite problem with way too much to discuss!

Thanks for following along, let’s make 2026 a great season!
