Six Weeks To Last Frost: We’re Bursting At The Seams!

Ooofta! That was a lot of transplanting and sowing. Six weeks to last frost is no joke, we’re now at the 90% point of everything we intend to sow this season, in the soil!

Our indoor growing spaces are now bursting at the seams. With single digits and heavy snowfall still in the forecast, we just cannot get things out to our heated greenhouse. We’ve got plants stuffed pretty much everywhere.

It’s feeling like January 94th over here. We desperately need some relief and fortunately, it looks like we’re finally going to get it. Next week, it looks like this ridiculously unpleasant late cold we’ve been getting is finally going to lift.

What this means is we’re going to see a wild hardening off schedule, starting mid-week. We normally do this in several phases to make it more manageable. But, since we’re so backed up, phase one is going to be a LOT of plants simultaneously!

Fortunately, from here on out, our sowing schedules are considerably lighter. But, it’s not like we get to rest at all. We’ll quickly phase into greenhouse care and in a matter of weeks, we’ll be prepping our gardens.

This rapid shift from winter to summer takes a lot of new subarctic gardeners by surprise. This is why we preach to be prepared, things happen incredibly fast once winter finally releases its firm grip!

As for this very moment, it’s time to kick back and relax for a minute. We’re exercising those gardening muscles, which is good, because we’re going need all of them next month!
