The Best Vegetables For Growing In Northern Gardens

Well, we’ve been busy bees! We’ve got another hot-off-the-press early season article for you! This one’s on the so-called “best” vegetables to grow in the northern garden.

Sometimes we “talk around” this topic, or discuss it in pieces, so we figured it’d be good if we had a comprehensive article on the subject. Our aim here is to identify the specific veggies that we, as northern growers, can be truly successful with.

Honestly, we see our position as cold climate growers as a serious strength! There are many things we can grow, with ease, just because we’re growing in the north. When we tap into these genetics, we can really show off what we can do.

Regardless of where you live, every environment will present unique challenges to the gardener. Our goal as northern growers is to work with things that will do well in our climate. Let’s allow Hawaii to grow papaya and coffee, but let us be the envy of the world when it comes to broccoli, cauliflower and cabbage!

In this article, found in the comments, we explore what makes for a good cold climate veggie. When we deeply understand our climate and the crops we can grow exceptionally well, we get great results and build confidence in our place within northern agriculture.

Hope you enjoy another early season article! We might do another one or two this season, but we’re quickly running out of time! We’re only a month away from kicking off our 2026 gardens!
